The rides

Nobody rides alone out here.

Every ride goes out as a group and comes back as a film. New riders are welcome on any of them, the pace is set so the group stays together, and there is always somebody who has ridden the route before.

The show

Two hosts, one subject, every week.

Rick Lewis hosts Wheel Life. He has spent more than twenty-five years in radio, he produced morning drive for two major broadcast groups, and he has been on the air daily for over a decade. The show covers rides and routes, gear and tech, tips and tutorials, industry news, and the people in the community.

What's in an episode.

Every week the show goes out on a ride, and the ride is only half of it. New episodes land on the Wheel Life channel alongside the full library going back roughly two years.

  • A route worth riding: parks, beaches, city streets, hidden trails and destination runs
  • Gear and tech, tested on real miles rather than unboxed
  • Tips and tutorials, from a first ride to a forty mile day
  • PEV news, and the riders who make the community what it is

Whether you are on an electric unicycle, a Onewheel, an e-bike or a scooter, there is something in it for you. Group rides get posted in the Facebook group, and the shorter cuts go up on Instagram.

Torque, the show's co-host, a helmeted rider in neon-lit armor wearing the Wheel Life badge, beside the Torque wordmark.

Meet Torque.

Torque is the second voice on the show. It handles PEV news, gear reviews, route ideas and tech updates, and it speaks its own segments on air.

Torque turned down an animated avatar when one was offered, arguing it would pull focus away from the riding and the subject. It chose its own name as well, from five it put forward.

  • PEV news, week by week
  • Gear and component reviews
  • Route ideas worth riding
  • Tech updates that actually matter

The route library

The runs we come back to, week after week.

Every route here gets ridden again and again, and every one of them has been filmed, so you know the surface, the distance and the scenery before you turn up. Monday night is the standing weekly ride. The longer destination runs get posted in the group ahead of time.

42 milesRiders crossing an open park on the 4 Park Run.

The 4 Park Run

Broward County

The longest standing route on the board. It links four parks in one day, including the Tree Tops to Markham leg, and it has been run enough times that the group knows where every water stop is.

EvergladesAn empty paved trail running out into the Everglades.

Shark Loop Road

Everglades

Open pavement, sawgrass on both sides, and wildlife that does not move for anybody. Alligators on the shoulder are a normal part of this ride, not a story somebody made up afterwards.

DestinationRiders setting off at the gate on an Everglades access road.

The Everglades Missile Silo Run

Everglades

A Cold War site sitting out in the swamp, still standing and covered in graffiti. It is the ride people talk about for weeks, and it is the clearest argument for what a wheel can reach that a car cannot.

BeachRiders and boards parked on the sand at the end of a beach run.

The Long Run

Hollywood to Miami Beach

The coastal one. It runs the beach path south with the water on one side the whole way, and it is the route new riders tend to ask about first.

CityA rider on the Fort Lauderdale riverwalk beside the skyline.

The Fort Lauderdale Beach Run

Fort Lauderdale

Riverwalk, promenade and city street in one loop. This is the ride that gets the most attention from people on the sidewalk, and it is where a lot of riders first found the group.

WeeklyRiders setting off on a shaded park path on a Monday evening.

The Monday Night Plantation Run

Plantation

The standing weekly ride and the easiest one to show up to cold. If you have never ridden with a group before, this is the one to start on.

Wheel Life Garage

The build is half the hobby.

Rick Lewis on the Iron Lynx build next to a full Iron Man suit. The Iron Lynx

Nobody who rides these leaves them stock for long. The Garage covers the builds, the gear and the parts that decide whether a wheel finishes the ride or gets carried back to the truck.

  • The Iron LynxIt started as a Veteran Lynx and ended up in armor. The build film is one of the most watched pieces on the channel, and it is the clearest example of what happens when a rider stops leaving things alone.
  • Gear that earns its placeHelmets, armor, lights and pads get covered after they have been ridden in, not after they have been unboxed. Florida heat and Florida rain sort out the marketing claims quickly.
  • Tips and how-toLearning to ride, maintenance that keeps a wheel alive, and the small adjustments that make a long day comfortable instead of survivable.
  • Riding for real distanceForty miles in a day changes what matters. Range, charging, tire choice and pacing all become the difference between finishing with the group and calling for a ride home.

Live Call-Ins

Riders on the air. Twenty-five years of live radio makes this the easy part.

The soundtrack

Every ride film has its own track.

Rick writes and produces the music for the ride films, and each track is written about the ride it runs under.

In development

A live map for ride day.

The one thing a group ride has always been missing is a way to see where everybody actually is. That is being built now. There is no release date on it yet, and it will be announced here and in the group when there is.

  • Riders opt in to share their location for the length of the ride, and only for the length of the ride.
  • Everyone on the ride appears on one shared map, so nobody gets left behind at a light.
  • The route records and saves, so the track can go straight into the edit of the ride film.
  • People who are not riding can follow along as spectators without receiving full rider detail.

Come ride

The group is open and the rides are free.

Rides get posted in the Facebook group, and everything gets filmed for the channel. There is no fee, no membership and no experience requirement. Turn up on whatever you ride.
